slowly working out some details trying to keep costs down. Instead of buying a new clutch I'm going to rebuild the pads on my spec 6 puck. I've always liked the feel of this clutch, light pedal and i can slip it slightly. Dropped it off today at Otts Friction Supply in portland. They liked that the sprung hub looked in good condition but were a tad concerned about the PP being a tad worn. But 100 bucks to replace and balance the pads and 24 to resurface the flywheel as apposed to 400ish for a new clutch. WIN, even if it only lasts for a year or 2 its worth it.

- New oil pump ordered, 176 shipped. arrived today
- have had a couple people look at my pistons now and all said they think they'll be ok to reuse, I was probably gonna reuse them anyway. so i just ordered new rings. ~100bucks.
- Ported head on zilvia for $230 shipped. i'm a tad skeptic just cause of the price but if its a good head it'll be worth the chance. and if its not i got my old one.
- now looking for machine shop, would like to use a torque plate but don't think anyone in the PNW has one.

Richard mentioned that Dan Hall might have one.

Split one with Brian so there's one locally

Question, I'm planning on using a different crank than the one that came with the block. Do i need to worry about something. or is just bearing clearances?

Gonna order main bearings soon. with ACL's is there a grade code with them?

If you are changing just the crank shaft the only thing would be the bearing clearances for main caps and rod bearings. If you changed any of the main caps then you would have to align bore the main caps or at least have it checked to make sure it is on point.

You can rent a torque plate from smracing on Freshalloy, email is steve.kovacs (at) wgint.com. He charged a 300 deposit, then 240 is returned which includes shipping.

I had my SR block and head machining done by Brian at M&B Cylinder Heads. He's near Jantzen Beach off of MLK. He used the torque plate to hone the block, but when he remeasured it after taking off the torque plate it barely changed at all (I think around a thousandth?). So a torque plate may not be that necessary..

A lot of aftermarket bearings don't have grades and just come in one size. For factory bearings you use the numbers off of the crank and the numbers off of the block to determine what you need.

Sorry to hear about you losing your job. You work at Intel, right? Are you working in Fab 20?

I'd be up for a track day at ORP, I haven't been there yet.

This is what my car looked like last year..

But I tore it down to nothing (literally everything came off except for the gas tank) and it's on the way back together. I've recently driven it, but I need to finish all the fiberglass and paint it. Hopefully won't take me longer than another couple months... still need to fit, sand, primer, paint, windows, etc. and only on days that I don't have other things going on.

I work over in D1D, I've seen your car around here before. The only person I actually know on this board is Nathan F, he has the light blue turbo KA that munched a transmission at the last Palatov ORP track day.
