Todd was telling me about someone with Touareg and they liked it, prob the same person. I've been leaning toward one, but it doesn't have ventilated seats so I'm not sure how I'll live.

I'm honestly scared of the Grand Cherokee and Durango reliability--as they are based off the same platform, almost everything about them seems to be the same with the Durango slightly below (I forget what exactly it was, but I don't know why people would pick the Durango over the GC). Plus I really don't know what is happening to the business side of Dodge lately--they aren't even really naming their vehicles 'Dodge' anymore. I started looking at 2011 GCs until I saw the coutnless number of service bulletins on them. You name a part on the car and it was probably on there. Plus I've heard of trannies going out on them as well.

If I was to get a gasser at the moment, I think I would lean toward the Tahoe. The only reason I shy away from them is just the sheer size. (That and apparently 08-09 had bad transmission problems) Dailying is just me, so I dont think I need a 7-passenger, 15/16mpg combined vehicle for that.

Trucks just don't seem to get good gas mileage for dailying from all the research I've been doing.

Titan isn't a bad idea. It can haul up to 9500lbs.

A 4th gen 4Runner V6 with an aftermarket hitch to use a WDH (good idea on anything 3,500 lbs+) can do 6300 lbs. The V8 with the stock hitch can do 7300 or something like that. The 1st gear is pretty short, and both engines make enough torque to get it moving in a reasonable time span.

The 5th gen V6 has a wimpy bumper mounted receiver that can't do a WDH so it's limited to 5000 lbs that way, but I don't see why the rest of the vehicle can't hold up just fine. The lack of aftermarket receivers is holding it back though, but no such problem on the 4th gens.

R51 Pathfinders can do 6000 lbs stock, and the VQ40 felt like it had more than enough power. I wasn't a huge fan of the driving dynamics tho'.


A 240 on an open steel trailer isn't that big of a load really. Not counting cargo you're at 4300-4900 lbs or so depending on the trailer and your car's weight. I think it all comes down to realistic expectations when towing, and being fine with not doing 80 mph with a trailer behind you like I see lots of people in TX do with their big diesel duallies. That also probably explains why I see so many freaking blown out trailer tires around here... (I see on average 3 a day, no joke)



A 1 ton V8 pickup from any make is going to tow it just fine, the question is are you fine with getting about 14-17 mpg combined and driving a truck all the time?


I also wouldn't own any VAG vehicles out of warranty - ever.

My Xterra is limited to 5000lb. The VQ40 has plenty of power for more but I think it's limited by the factory receiver. I actually bought this rig to go on wheeling trips and tow my 40 to and from events. I also needed something for towing a boat.

Yep, it's limited by the receiver. The R51 Pathfinder has the same engine and trans (and frame I think, just a little longer) and it'll do 6000 lbs.

How does the XTerra tow the 240?

I have yet to get the car out of the garage. I'm finalizing my VET build(in the works for 3yrs now). I'll be taking it to get tuned soon hopefully, I'll report back.

The Armada, Titan, Xterra, Frontier and the Pathfinder all share the same frame. I'm pretty sure the Pathfinder and the Armada have IRS rears though.

Not used as a daily but I managed to secure a tow vehicle. I'm the operations manager / co owner of a small tech company. One of our vans bit the dust after 200,000 miles. I decided we needed a pickup to haul big ladders / equipment etc... to replace it.

I was able to pick up a used 2005 GMC Sierra 1500 4x4 crew cab 5.3 liter with 85,000 miles for a steal of a deal. The tech that will be primarily using it is a friend and totally cool with me using it for track days and weekends when needed. This thing is pretty pimp. Whoever owned it really babied it. It is in immaculate shape and came with almost all of the options available at the time. It's good for 7400lbs towing so with an open trailer, I'll have no issues.

bose audio with rear audio controls
Leather heated, and memory power seats
self adjusting, folding, heated power mirrors with signals in them
4x4
the onstar crap that I'll never use.
If it was newer it would have an aux or USB input but just a little too old.
