  • Connecting Rod Assembly question

I'm coming right out with this, I can not separate my rod caps from my rods. They are K1 rods, bolts stretched to .005-.006". The thing is, I haven't got a rod vice. Any tips?

I use a machinist vise (or any good vise with GROUND Parallel jaws) to hold the cap and then tap the rod bolts with a lead hammer or a piece of aluminum (protect threads first)

But the bolts are just pushing against the main part of the rod? How would that work?

With the rod cap in the vise it will push the main part of the rod separate from the caps, that will make them come apart like you said you wanted.

Yep, split them apart on their short axis, not across the rod's whole journal.
