  • machining the deck?

Ok. I have mocked up my new motor and started checking clearances. The piston is about .110 down. How much can you take off safely? Seems like .100 is alot to remove.

You have to account for rod/piston stretch as well as thermal growth. 0.010" of piston recess sounds reasonable with a 1.1 mm compressed headgasket, but at high RPM maybe it's an issue.

The 0.110" recess sounds odd though. I don't recall seeing anything remotely close to that in my SR bottom end.

What's the story on your build?

It honestly sounds like a bit of a stackup problem to me.

I would cc the head and the piston dome + recess, then calculate your CR with a normal HG. I'm betting it's way out of spec...

Is it safe to remove that much from the block. I worry about timing problems

That is a lot to remove. Service limit is a fraction of a millimeter IIRC.

I wonder if the pistons you bought were some lower CR ones for turbo applications, or the pin height is wrong? That just doesn't sound right for an NA build..

It sounds to me like something if off as well, that's why I suggested measuring actual CR vs. advertised. I'm betting either the wrist pin height or rod length is off for the crank stroke.

Aftermarket rods, crank, & pistons.. so you never know.. might measure complete stroke while you're at it to see where things are. does the BC crank have shorter stroke? stock rod length?

I think it's a longer stroke that can get you like 2.5-2.6L.

I checked the stoke before dissemble and guess what, my stroker crank is stock stroke. I checked the part number on the crank. Called Crower and they said it is a stroker. I did not buy it new so they can't do anything with it. So I ordered another set of pistons. Just goes to show you check first, measure then order parts.

If you want a new stroker crank I can give you a hookup on it.

I think stroke is ok. Piston speed is hi enough. I have had it lightened and balanced. So on with the build.

Gotcha, sounds like you just need stock length rods. I can help you with that too.

Just offering a little assistance if you need it.
