    cams

I have seen cams installed with the front lobes not facing up when installed and then improperly torqued break the cam in that location. Also when tearing down the engine the same will apply. If the lobe is facing down when the caps are loosened the cam will bind in the first journal and can break when trying to remove it from the head. I watched a young kid do this. Your cam could have been cracked and later broke.

The PCV system can suck a lot of oil from the pan on some motors. After I remove the butterflies in my intake it would smoke at a idle. I put a catch tank to stop it from doing that.

Already have. Got rid of most vacuum and coolant lines.

Head ended up having 9 bad valves. Took my second head to get it pressure checked. If it's also bad, going to pull a head from an S13 at local junkyard this weekend. Either that or buy a head from the machine shop. They have KA head that owner never payed for and they are willing to let it go for labor price.

Swapped the head and the gas tank awhile back.

Runs great, no more build up.

My friend just finished building his KA-T and while trying to dial in the idle - this happened.. What's up with KA's breaking CAMs recently?

I can not speak for both of us (because I did not touch anything on his car, and he never touched mine). But I surely followed tech data when reinstalling my cam shafts.

hmmm....I never did like the bolt diameter and proximity to the front oil groove in that first cam cap...strangely enough JWT recommends an even bigger bolt for rpm's exceeding 7300 or something silly....

I find it quite interesting that in the SR manual the bolt-down pattern is inside-out but on the KA it's outside-in.
