  • SR20 Transmission 5.1 Final Drive

MFactory is willing to make these final drive gears greater than the current 4.785 they offer.

These 5.1 would be great I tested the 4.785 but I feel I could still benefit from a bigger like the 5.1 on the tracks I run as I bet many of you would do too.

In a 7,500rpm rev limit the car would still push 135mph in 5th gear

And in a VE like me with a 9,000rpm would push 160mph on 5th

What I want say is that the cars will still make good high mph with the short final
and have a killer tranny ratio for the infield.

We need 3 more in order to get this done.
If anyone is interested contact me at neovvl at gmail dot com.

You would be much better off keeping the existing final drives and getting a close ratio transmission..

The problem is that there are categories like IT-A and Autocross you can not modify the Gears.

and other than that some PAR Gear Ratios would cost around $3,000 for a syncromesh system.

and the Mfactory FD would cost around $580 + S&H

I put an Mfactory LSD in my K20 honduh. Good stuff, perfect fitment requiring no shimming at all.

Mfactory makes great quality items. Have you tried sr20forum?

Those are all options. Depending on your goals with the car and race class, that may not be the best option though.
Lots of 4 and 5 spd dog boxes have a 1:1 top gear. Very few have overdrive.

The gearing in the stock boxes is really crappy in 2nd and 3rd gears. 2nd and 3rd are way too far apart, and both are too short for proper race use.

These trannies are also weak for racing use, and you don't want a synchro tranny for race-only use. You also don't want an overdrive due to the additional losses and stress on an overdriven gearset.

Driving a car with a 5.1 rear on the highway in the US would also be stupidsauce (average speed limits 65 to 80mph), so I can't imagine someone wanting to cruise at 4500rpm on the highway for hours on end to get to a track.

Thus, the people looking at these kinds of mods are probably not going to be dailiy driving their cars, and they would likely be looking for something better than the stock (crap) transmission with a shorter final drive.

I'd rather stick with the 3.9, 4.1, 4.3 final drives out there and run a 1:1 top gear.

For someone that is truly limited on transmission gearing like IT classes, then this is an option. However, a better option would be to swap to a better transmission with closer ratio gearing. It costs more up front, but you have better gearing and much better reliability than the stock tranny.

Just my opinion. It's worth what you paid for it.

This is for the FWD chassis. We've got about ten of them ordered now.

Could that same supplier be able to make final drive ratios for the GA16DE as they now will have a recalculated weight in ITB and could be weighting about 2290 Lbs making them much more competitive. How many sets(minimum) do they require, and what would the price be???

There were factory alternate ratios avilable for the Ga16. Stock was 3.89 but I've seen 4.17, 4.35, 4.47.

The 4.47 was standard in the B12 4wd wagons.

                        overdrive

I was looking at a JDM transaxle and saw the overdrive .810 verses .733 this would be much closer. I put a .838 in my 240 and works much better. I would love to have one. Is the overdrive gear set interchangeable. Where can I find one?
                        USDM NX2000 FWD gearset:

                        5-Speed Gear Box
                        1st: 3.333
                        2nd: 1.826
                        3rd: 1.286
                        4th: 0.975
                        5th: 0.733

                        JDM GA16DE FWD Gearset:

                        5-Speed Gear Box
                        1st: 3.063
                        2nd: 1.826
                        3rd: 1.286
                        4th: 0.975
                        5th: 0.810
