Hi guys,
Since I am rather new to autoxing I figured I would come to you guys for help/advice, since it seems there is very knowledgeable/experienced people on here. Just like the title says what are your must-have supplies that you take with you on the day of a autox/track day?
Do you usually have someone go with you in a separate car? and keep your things in that car?
What tools/supplies?
Do you take spare car parts? If so, what do you take?
What do you use for storage(if you don't have someone go w/you in separate car)?
What snacks?:D
Water bottles or camelbak?
If there is anything you would like to add, please do.
Thanks,
Ivan
-Water, lots of water
-small snack at the least, low blood sugar sucks
-torque wrench
-tire press. gauge and small compressor/bottle of air
-jack, a jack stand or two
-little repair stuff like fuses, hose clamps, and spare bolts(a few M6, M8, M10) in case stuff falls out(definitely happened before)
-basic wrenches/rachet/socket stuff with 8/10/12/14/17/19mm sizes to take apart most of the car + screwdrivers
-Painters tape for numbers if needed
-stuff to clean glass(lots of rubber on the windshield at the track)
That's a good starter list.
If you are a little on the whiter side, I recommend a ball cap and some sunscreen. I also bring a chair.
Zip ties are a must. I try to remember my camera, but I normally forget it.

The blue rubbermaid boxes are a great way to store your supplies. I keep mine packed so I don't have to run around the day before an event trying to remember everything. It also helps to make a list of what's in the box and tape it to the top.
Other things you might want to take:
- a folding chair
- spare set of brake rotors/calipers/fluid (for track only)
- a trashbag
- sunscreen and bugspray

I was never a fan of the cheap (flimsy) tote boxes... I guess I had to much crap and they always seem to crack/break on me.
I used (for over 5 years) a black tote box from walmart that had double walls and the top clamped on tightly with heavy-duty clamps, it was under 2/3rds the size of a normal tote box and just barely held all my misc tools, brake pads, small spare parts, gloves and so on. When not in the car, it had a spot in the garage that it stayed and I pulled/put things back from it as I needed for garage use. This way I could always just grab it and do a quick once-over before taking off.
I just recently switched to a Makita tool bag that is slightly larger than the box I retired to hold a few more things that wouldn't fit in the before mentioned box, it seems to be working fine (except the waterproof part) and I got in for $10 from a coworker :).

-tools
-jack and jackstands
-torque wrench
-fluids (for the car)
-a spare tire or two (now I will have track wheels)
-zipties (MUST have)
-a couple hundred extra bucks or credit or debit card (you never know)
-a chair
I usually have a buddy come with in another car too, you gotta have a way to get around if your break down. Also if something happens and you end up in the hospital it is good to have somebody there. It isn't likely, but **** happens. I'm considering finding a way to mount a trailer hitch that is easily removable and getting a small tire trailer.

I made a Word document with everything I needed, because I am bad about remembering every little thing. Sure, I travel with more than I probably need, but I've never not had anything when I needed it at the track.
I can email it someone wants it, or upload it to my site if there is mild interest.
I am in the process of trimming the list for autocross. I haven't had a checklist for a long time though as a mechanical failure or not having something is MUCH less of an inconvenience (less money in entry fees, less lost seat time).

I would love to take a look at your list, definitely the trimmed autocross list as well. If you decide to just email it, let me know and I will shoot you my email addy.

.
I've had these for close to 10yrs now and none of them have ever cracked. I don't load them up with parts though. I use them for supplies such as rain gear, jumper cables, small selection of tools, air pump, racing shoes, paper towels, etc. Those type of items.
I put my hard parts for track in milk crates, or in a parts bin like the one that CARQUEST uses to deliver parts to their stores.

I only had one break, but the other issue was the size, for as much stuff as I put in the back of the Sentra/240, it took up to much space for other important things.
Typically for a track day, what I stuff in the trunk of the 240, and it all fits is...
10x10 popup shade
folding chair
HF aluminum jack
Jack stands
Dewalt Impact
large blanket for laying on under car... do this to much
tarp (keeping things dry at track)
Jug of distilled water
5qt jug of oil
helmet
small tote (now tool bag) with:
-- misc tools (small rachet set, large assortment of wrenches, racheting wrenches, and etc)
-- breaker bar
-- torque wrench
-- brake pads
-- gloves
-- air compressor (walmart cheap one)
-- IR temp and tire temp sensors
-- safety wire, zip ties (lots of them, all sizes), spare bolts/
-- cleaning supplies, paper towels, and all the misc little stuff

Yeah but when you have over $200 tied up in a track day, why take the chance :).
If I actually stick a streetable track tire for 09 and on, then I might be able to take a few things off the list, but then again once you go to a sticky tire it's hard to ever go back to a street biased tire.

As far as containers go, my girlfriend got me a water proof kayaking bag from REI. I had the rubermaid containers crack and they take up a lot of space. She went with me to a HPDE at Road America and it was raining so hard all my stuff looked like it was in a river. That is where she got the idea.
At anyrate it works really well. I keep my jack, tool box, tourque wrench, cordless impact, spacers, sunscreen, rain jacket, brake pads, etc... in it. I have a regular grocery bag I keep all my glovebox stuff, ipass, garage opener and cd's from the car in. I put it in the kayak bag. I use it mainly just to keep all that stuff together.
Any fluids coolant, oil, brake fluid, etc.. I am not concerned about getting wet seeing as they are all sealed contianers. They just sit out next to the kayak bag.

Dang , the 2 autox's I did I had me and the car .... now my track days are crazzy ..... I have a full size F250 full of stuff , tools, parts etc ...
One thing I havent seen listed that has probably saved me a couple times is a Jump box , to jump start whatever or use as battery power for whatever ...

boy after reading this list I know why I have a dedicated race trailer.
snacks: corn nuts, chili mango slices, and beef jerky
drinks: Gatorade/Powerade, and Water
I usually grab some Subway before I go to the track Spicy Italian ( foot long ) and keep it in my cooler, until I get hungry.
track food = expensive.. doesn't fill you up

My favorite snack are as listed:
Reduced Sodium Sunflower Seeds (david brand) I will easily say that I spit more seeds than anyone I know.
Jack Link's Beef - Peppered
Phillipine Mango Slices (from Costco)
Diet Rockstar

I saw the lots of water listed but you really need something more as well like poweraide, etc. IMHO

Just came across a website that is holding a track day and this is what they recommend you bring:
"TRACK CHECKLIST
Note: Many of these things don't apply to a person in a street car, so don't worry about it if you don't have some of the equipment such as a neck brace
Required
Helmet! - It is very easy to forget a helmet so do everyone a favor and put it in your car now (=
Tech form - Extremely Important
Car Numbers - required on both sides of the car and rear, a minimum of eight inches tall.
Tow hook installed or tow point established
Cotton or Nomex clothing ONLY. No leather or synthetics allowed.
Highly Recommended (not strictly required)
Driving Suit or long sleeve cotton shirt and cotton pants (although we allow short sleeve shirts and shorts, it is highly discouraged and potentially harmful in the case of an accident)
Fire Extinguisher
Extra Brake pads
Brake fluid
Drinking Water (On the Edge provides water but just in case we run out…)
Engine Oil - bring a quart or two, just in case
Hat - for Sun
Sunglasses
Sun Screen
Folding chair
Optional
Duct tape
Distilled Water - Radiator
EZ-UP Canopy - Ideally there would be one for every 4 cars or so because the sun can be brutal. Hopefully everyone who has one will bring one (and it makes you very popular too).
Windex - You will kill many bugs on your way to the track.
Brake Bleeder line
Racing Neck Brace
Racing shoes
Camera
Hose Clamps
Jack
Jack stands
Jumper Cables
Service manual
Torque wrench
Other tools (sockets, wrenches, pliers...)
Grease
Hand Soap
Ice chest
Map/directions/phone number of hotel
Map/directions/phone number of track
Paper Towels
Rags
Run Flat aerosol cans
Tie Wraps
Stopwatch
Race tires
Spare tire - you never know
Tire pump
Tire pressure gauge
Tire pyrometer
Flashlight
Funnel for oil
Gloves – disposable"
