do yall think it is worth it?? i've got the shell.. and im gonna slowly build it for road racing.. but i almost thought about selling it to get a platform that has a little more potential for SCCA club racing.. i've kinda heard that 240's just arent practicle for the class since the 13b rx-7 are way better chassis and way faster cars on road courses. im just kinda gathering opinions.

Hmmmm.... I bought some RA-1's off a guy in January that races a ITS S14 and has done pretty well with it. I think it can be competitive.
Check out what cars race ITS in the tracks in your area, you might find that you built a car for a class of 1.
If you REALLY wanna hear some opinions, post this question at roadraceautox.com, lots of IT drivers there with lots of opinions.

Or better yet, post it here:

If you do, let us know what they say.
I remember E36 325's were the car to have for ITS a few years ago, but things always change in IT due to rules changes(restrictors, weight etc.).

i think the car of choice now is RX-7's since they are so light. but im gonna post on improved touring .com since im pretty sure i already have an account on there. i just love the s-chassis and so i dont really wanna switch when i start club racing..

build a car you want to race, skill will take you the rest of the way. 240sx's in ITA used to do very well when they were more popular. RX-7' are light chassis's with good susp. setups but they also have rotories and they just dont seem to last too long.
Dont build a car for a race class off the bat, get in some track time in whatever car you want and see if you like it r if you think you can financially afford racing. Then slowly build your car up for whatever race class you desire. Also try not to get into the mind set that just because your using a lighter chassis doesnt mean you will be competitive in that class, it takes alot to be top-dog, not just a light car.
Also consider NASA, SCCA isnt the only club out there. But more than anything get more track time in and see what class you want or can even afford on a normal basis.

i know what ur saying i would just hate to grow attached to a chassis then have to change and loose all data and things i have gained from car setup by having to change chassis. but idk.. it will probably be a little bit before i build something. im just gonna keep trying to get track time in my s13..

you should never "have" to change to a different chassis. Only if you think that next chassis has what it takes to give you the competative edge. I personall know and hink the S13./S14 chassis has lots of potential just because people say the FC chassis are better doent mean you wont hate driving one. Dont worry about these things until you actually have a race/comp license and are ready to not juct be in race, but be competitive. Many people race knowing they wont win, because they dont have the financial backing as other teams, so they just come out to race and have fun.

FC's have a TERRIBLE rear suspension design. I couldn't imagine them being any faster then a s-13. Maybe the rules allow (*do not specifically prohibit*) using an s-14 rear subframe in the s-13 even?

It all depends on what group you want to race in, SCCA, NASA, or other. Both the ITS 240sx and ITA 240sx are competitive cars in SCCA. But it will depend on what region you are running in, who shows up, to determine whether the car will be top dog or not. My ITA 240sx podium-ed in about half the races I ran (in the very competitive Southeast Region), but I never won in it. In ITS the 240 will be competitive like in ITA but you may have a hard time notching wins. Ask 20srgoofus about NASA. The plus side is that they are great handling, very forgiving racecars.

Sure. In the early stages now.
I found a 1991 slicktop cheap that needed some body work.
I have gutted the car, and gotten all of the sound deadening out. Cage is next and then I start the basic build up. I am taking a lot my rear suspension arms/parts from the 240sx. They are all have spherical bearing bushings. I have Ground Control Advance Design shocks for all four corners. I bought them off a guy in California recently. They're supposedly one of only a few sets that GC made for this car.
A lot of the things like seat, gauges, removable steering wheel, exhaust, headers, ect, are already gathered up or being reused from the 240sx.
I'll just run the motor in it (sans pollution hardware) for a while till I get the car sorted and see if it has potenial.
Those of you who know the I.T. Ruleset know that we really aren't allowed to make any radical changes to the car.
Hopefully it will be out by July, but I have built enough race cars to know that there is still a ton of work to be done, and deadlines have a habit of being pushed back. There are a few things that I will have figure out, like front wheel camber adjustment with the stock control arms. I'll probably have to fabricate a solution.
I don't want to hijack this thread anymore than I have, so when I put the cage in I'll post a few pics in another thread.
