Are these fixed mounts? or do you have a slider?

Are these fixed mounts? or do you have a slider? They are fixed... I've had sliders before (Sparco) and didn't like them for a few reasons. head room was also a concern and the sliders eat up a good 1/2" plus some trying to keep the sides even. Another shot that I took after my initial post. http://www.sr20forum.com/gallery/data/959/medium/S13_after_turbo_install_05.jpg

Nice. Is the Evo L a larger size than the regular Evo? I wish I had matching seats. SPL stopped selling their seats so I was unable to get a passenger seat to match mine. Just went with a Memoryfab bucket I got in the Honda-Tech advertiser specials section. Its similar, but not identical. Its also huge, barely fits between the tranny tunnel and door. After having an instructor who was like 260+ lbs barely be able to squeeze into my car with the stock seat, I realized I better get a huge passenger bucket or risk missing out on an event/session.

The Evo L is about 1" wider than the Evo. I had an Evo in the sentra and it was alittle on the tight side. The Evo L is just right... I'm 190lbs and have a 34 waist, anyone over a 36" waist will probably have issues though.
Yea I just recently went to Northstarmotorsports.com (the showroom in Barrington, IL), and the only seat that suits me is the Corbeau Forza2, i have like a 38 waist, so its fits me well. Im probably going to have to order the seat rails/sliders from them also, that are designed for this seat. But im skeptical as to how much head room i would have, especially when wearing a helmet ? Anyone have any input on this? Sorry to hijack this thread

Any seat with a bottom mount and your going to have issues with head room especially if you want to use a slider. Of course this comment is coming from someone that is 6'4" tall and needs room for a helmet.

I'm 5'11", and my helmet will rub the headliner sometimes with the stock seats (S14 w/ sunroof). I can't imagine the kind of trouble someone would have if they were taller than me or if they wanted to use bottom-mount seats. A good seat is one of those "must do" mods, IMO.

Has anyone tried mounting sliders outboard of the seat for sidemounts?

The only adjustable rails that work in that fashion are the Nams rails. i haven't seen any that i would trust in a race car personally. The Nams use 1/8" steel iirc.

I had the sparco sliders and did not like them when on track, way to much movement in them in the corners when R-compound tires were added.

Anyone ever fit a sparco circuit pro seat in an s chassis? or a sabelt taurus seat? these ones can fit large drivers and have massive restraint...

I think for that price thats worth it.. considering how much authentic jdm tyte bride seats cost...
I am 6'2 and have wide shoulders/built/large legs/etc... plus lately got a little of a belly so im at 270lbs... lol.. no im not mcdonalds joe im just tall/large bones/etc... being built without fat id still be around 240-250...
Anyways... I need large seats :( I wonder if these will fit in an s13...

The problem with the Nams rail is that it pretty much only works with narrow jdm-sized seats. I bought my evo2 with a bride rail, and the previous owner had welded additional tabs to the inside of the driver's side rail so he could move the mounting position to fix.
Richard built my set of mounts for my evo2, too, and I muuuuch prefer them.

I have the NAMS rail and I hate the fact the inner rail has no locking tab like how the bride rails have locking tabs on both rails.

The downside is that you can't do that w/o having something pass underneath the seat to release the lever.
The downside to having something that runs below it...you can't go as low.
Those darn catch 22's.

the bride rail each have an individual locking tab no wire that runs underneath to make it dual action.

A buddy of mine who does NASA TT (Bill Brees, TTE champ) has that in his car... I got an opportunity to sit in it, and it is probably the most uncomfortable and awkward seat I've ever sat in. I could probably stand it for an auto-x, but for the street or for 20-minute track sessions, no thanks. It's VERY light, though.
I think that I would go with the Start as well. Can't really beat FIA homologation on a budget.

It's not really any cheaper than the Sparco stuff though, and MUCH harder to find one to sit in.

Since the first few posts were killed with the switch over to Vbulletin, I'll copy and paste my writeup from the sr20forum...
Finally got around to getting the seats off the garage floor and into the car. The only way to get the seats mounted as low as possible was to make custom mounts. I worked out some parts trades and services with Veilside180sx, one of them being the seat mounts. I made the 6 hour drive to Portland Friday night and we sent all day yesterday getting these mounts built... and just got back home after another 6 hour drive, oh the fun
Onto the pictures!
Drivers side seat mount started... There was a fair bit of time spent getting this far, the cuts, bends, drilling the holes, and cleaning up the cuts took a bit of time. The passanger side went by much faster since we had the drivers side to use as a template.
http://nissanroadracing.com/files/images/CIMG1253.preview.JPG
Drivers side mounts finished. These are what the finished (minus some cleaning up and a coat of paint) product looks like for the drivers side. The passanger side mount is a mirror image of this one. That 1/2 rod is stronger than it looks, with everything bolted down there was zero movement in the mounts...
http://nissanroadracing.com/files/images/CIMG1256.preview.JPG
How low can you go... without cutting out the hump on the drivers side, this is how low you can go :)
http://nissanroadracing.com/files/images/CIMG1265.preview.JPG
your truely, finishing the passanger side.

The passanger side turned out perfect. The drivers side could be forward about 1/2", but I'm not complaining... I just made a 6 hour drive back and love the seats.
A big thanks to Richard for his time put into getting these seats into my car... :D

So how do the stock 3-point belts work with those seats? I'm looking at the small EVO's for this summer. Shoulder boltsers the same height as the doors = pretty low!

Wow man that is tight, I hope they are safe/strong lol I will assume they are. I want to fit Evo 3 seats I think Evo L is the same thing.. I've seen Evo 3 and Evo 2 Plus (same sizes?) mounted in 240... I need evo3 realistically im tall/big... :( That looks hot man... You should sell these mounts too competitively and thus make people want them over 100-200 dollar cheapo brand **** mounts..

You mean the auto-death belts? I don't know since I ripped them out before doing this. I'm using sentra (B14) manual belts that they work just fine.
I'll be adding a harness bar and 6-pt belts as soon as its built by someone (richard) and eventually go onto a 1/2 cage similiar to Andy's once I have a new daily driver at the house...

Oh, these are strong. that 1/2" stock rod is not something easy to bend, even in an accident and the side brackets are hefty too... to bend those into 'L's we had to use a vice and a BFH :).
The Evo2 is the 'L' and the Evo3 is the 'XL'. If you got a waist size of a 32-36, I think the L is plenty good. The XL is really big and would require removing the inner door pieces to fit.

Haha hmm I am over 36 :P I'm a big guy :( I have issues buying pants man lol... either they are tooo tall in my size or too thin and short for my waist lol... I read into the evo 3 and who fits in them etc... and i figured this is the one... I'd have to be bonny at 180lbs as I was 2 years ago to fit into evo 2.. evo 1 is an absolute no no. I was 34-36ish when I was 180lbs... NO FAT what so ever, just pure lean muscle... now i am 285lbs... its in the mid-40s and i read evo3 can fit such people :P I don't look fat cause im tall although now i do have a slight belly... if i lost the belly and became lean again id be like 240lbs-ish :( Maybe 42ish range i think?...

I'm using stock belts with my Evo L, and I don't have any problem. The sides of the evoL are not super tall, so the lap belt still catches me.
I have a 34-36" waist, and the Evo L fits nice--I dd my s13, and I have zero problem with it.
Alex
I don't think I'll ever find a seat to fit me properly. If they're small enough to where I feel "tight" in it(Recaro SPG on the waist, my shoulders are a bit wide for it, but I could deal), the thing is like 4" too short for me, with my shoulders above the top of the harness holes. :(
I sat in a Cobra Imola, and it was pretty good, but still a bit short.
Evo L's are way too big for me... heh

I used an Evo in the sentra for a few years and it was tight, probably a bit to tight for me.
After sitting in the Evo2 last year in one of the instructors Vette's, I knew that was my new seat. Luckily enough when I got home that night, did a quick search on Ebay and found a slightly used (never installed) set of Evo2's for $650 shipped and clicked on the buy-it-now button :).

Yeah, you got the deal of the century. I paid $300 for mine, couple holes in the fabric, but not *too* bad.
The only thing I don't like is the cheap fabric and no wear patches.

That's a pretty good price for either, especially considering the 3 or more than the 2. Does that include shipping? Because that can be pretty pricey. I paid $720 shipped for my Evo2+.

Back from the dead,
A while ago I had opportunity to try circuit pro and 2000 pro seats, evo 1, 2, 3, 2 plus, and a bunch of other reclinable ones.
I loved the circuit pro.. HOWEVER... i am too tall and my shoulders are wide...
I also loved the evo 2 plus, perfect fit, however my legs are still huge and although I fit and it's tight, I feel like I'm gona slide around, I liked how the circuit pro feels like you're sunken in... I ilke that sunken in feeling... and even the circuit pro I wish it had higher side leg supports... The evo2's side support imho was non existant for my legs, I feel like I'd still slide or move around (well maybe not.. but... not a tight snug I'm in the mother's arms feeling).
Also the evo2's are near perfect for my height, maybe needs to be a little bit taller still... as the harness is a lil below shoulders not quite above so my shoulders would still probably get a beating if not a crushing effect heh..
The circuit pro l or xl or plus or something exists according to this shop.. but its still not tall enough and hell (no point thinking about).
If I could combine evo 2 plus and circuit pro features i'd have a winner...
Kirkey racing seats are in canada... however I have yet to touch one... and someone mentioned the ultra shield ones are **** and they are basically the kirkeyracing state-side clone...
I don't have the dinneros right now, but from time to time I think about this... I really loved both the circuit pro (despite not being able to actually sit in it lol.. slouched forward but good leg feeling) and evo 2 plus... but neither is right...
FWIW, I've found that what I thought felt good while driving isn't what really felt good while sitting in seats in a shop or even sitting still in a car. My driver seat is a used "JDM" seat I got from a local Japanese importer. It's tight, feels a lot like a Sparco Pro2000, but a little tighter in the waist. It's moderately uncomfortable when driving the thing in traffic or something, but get in a situation where I'm actually driving and the fact that it's so tight is actually good. My passenger seat is a Recaro Pole Position. It's much bigger in width than this seat, but around the same height to the harness holes, and the headrest is about another 1-2" higher still.
I'm 6'3" and I find the harness holes of both of these to work. The Pole Position has so much ass padding that I find it works better with it completely out. The JDM seat is pretty light on the padding, but there have only been a few times I felt like my ass was going numb from a rough road(I'm sure 2Fass is going to have a field day with that).
Anyway, the short of it is that I'd go for a seat a little on the tighter side than the looser side. Your harnesses will hold you in, but if the seat has more than a finger's width of room on your hips, it's way too big IMO. It's supposed to be a seat meant to help you go fast, not a lazyboy.

09-20-2008, 06:50 PM
Oh the evo 2 plus felt good alright, it was nice and tight, it's just i was hoping for more leg support like.. extended height on leg sides as my legs are big so they are not held in right.. if that makes sense.. what is the exact name for the bottom of the seat's sides? If that was taller on the sides to keep me tighter in that would be golden. And only other complaint is if the evo 2 plus was a tiny bit still taller some more for me, both for harness hole as mentioned and the shoulders hugging thingamajig otherwise it was perfect.
I loved the circuit pro's fit like a glove feel, i loved the sunken in feeling for both ass and legs (better than what I was just mentioning above for leg sides but could be even better still). Prob with circuit pro is that the shoulder curve or whatever it's called... is way too low and I'm tall + my shoulders broad... equaling me not able to even sit in it yikes... as its for way too short people.. i was slouched forward unable to sit in, but legs and ass fit nicely
I'm looking for tightness not lazyboy style :P Otherwise plenty lazyboy reclinables but they are too soft/no support = suck. Plus who needs reclinable seats lol... :-/

I've tried a few different seats, but have only owned the Evo and Evo2. I find that both the Evo and Evo2 have more than enough leg support. While you might like the "sunken in feeling" with the legs on the showroom floor, might not be what you want on the street, or most importantly on the track. I like to be able to have some freedom of movement (not a loose fit) in the legs when switching from the typical foot stance to heel/toe or just for the normal legs movements while on track.
At the last track day, I drove Brian's (Your_Mom) 240 on track with his bride (I think) seat. I felt like my legs were being forced together (ball buster as I call it) to the point that I had a hard time positioning my legs/feet to where I liked them... it was uncomfortable. Brian sat in my seat and is wanting to switch seats now :).
ahmed, did you pull the lower seat pad out of the Evo2 and sit in it? I find that the seat has alot more support this way and is how I always drive with the car on track.

You know what, I can't remember if I have, I'll go down the shop again and check if the ass padding was out or not and will try again.
