This car is my third S14. First one was also white, essentially a clone of this car, which makes me love it more!
My S14 is my only car, sometimes street transportation, and autoX/track day car when I get a chance. There's not as much free time as I'd like in med school (who woulda thought!?), so I don't get to that many events, but I'm hoping to do a bunch this summer (my last free summer).
I got the car mostly stock, rust free, ABS, no sunroof...pretty much everything I had been looking for. Right now it has a basically stock motor with just some BC cams and a Hotshot header, and an S15 HLSD.
Suspension:
Stance GR+
Bing multilink
SPL tension rods
Kougaku subframe bushings
17x9 +17 MB Weapons, 245/40/17 Kumho MX
Brakes:
30mm Al Z32 fronts, Z32 rears
Axxis Ultimates all around
SPL lines
China rotors
Interior:
Nardi Deep Corn 330mm steering wheel, NRG QR, Works Bell hub
JDM '99 Z32 shift knob
Kirk Racing 4 point bolt-in rollbar
SPL CF drivers' bucket seat on Nagisa rails
MemoryFab S58L passenger bucket bolted to the floor
It's fun as-is, but too skittery, loud, and slow. Major work planned for summer:
Swap in S13 SR with:
Exedy Hyper Single
T28
STi injectors
Z32 MAF
ROM tune
Hybrid IC
JGS recirculated BOV
Megan DP, SSAC exhaust (perhaps add Magnaflow/Dynomax muffler to replace ricecan if its too loud still with the SR and no leaks?)
C&R dualpass rad and SPAL fan
B&M oil cooler
Kougaku water pump pulley
AN lines for oil and coolant to turbo, and PS high pressure line
Odyssey PC680 in trunk
Stack boost/oil pressure gauges
Innovate LC1 wideband with Dynotune LCD display
Adios A/C
Window-weld-filled mounts
ebay steering rack bushings
Suspension overhaul:
8611s in Richard's housings, ebay front camber plates, Tein rear uppermounts, T^3 front tophats, GC rear tophats, GC sleeves with 400 lb springs front, 325 rear (7.1/5.8)
Def's rear spindle sphericals
SPL V3 tie rods
SPL diff bushings
New tires soon- probably 255/40/17 Azenis 615s
Brakes:
*Probably just new rotors with Hawk Blues in front for track duty, Axxis Ultimates in front for autoX and street use, Ultimates in back all the time
*Possibly 'stang Cobra rotors if anyone ever makes brackets/hubcentric rings for them
Possibly:
Progress front swaybar (will have to feel car with 8611/no rear sway to decide)
4.6 final drive in diff (would never touch 2nd again on track, but could be buzzy on hwy, and install might be over my head)
Real brake ducts
GF demands:
Ditch passenger bucket (mounting is ghetto anyways, and its so wide it touches the door and the trans tunnel at once)
I'm really hoping to get the engine bay clean and orderly. I just hate overly cluttered bays since they make working on the car so difficult and it's hard to diagnose problems. Since this car has ABS, it's gonna be fairly cluttered, but getting rid of excess emissions junk and A/C should help a lot.
I'm planning to do a bunch of autocrosses and open lapping days this summer. I'll try to get some pics up when I do. I have a friend with a shop and a TIG now, so hopefully the work on the car will go a bit quicker than when I was in college and did everything in my apartment parking lot.
Car looks good - I looked for a white car when I was shopping for my S13.

Konis aren't on yet, but hopefully it will ride well. I went a little softer in front than in back because I'm planning to get the Progress front bar and ditch the rear. I like the balance with the current 8/6 springs, so the balance with the Koni setup should be similar.

Reminds me sort of of aceinhole's white s14 in it's early stages heh
Nice car...
So what events are you planning on attending this year?
June 1st Salt Creek Sports Car Club Auto-X at Maywood park...check it out..i should be there.

I might go to that one, depends on school. Med school makes me its bitch until June 20.
I'm going to the event this sunday unless something is wrong with my car...shouldn't be.
Other than that, I'll probably try to hit 5 or 6 more autocrosses at Maywood since it's just a 12 mile job down 290 from me. Should take like 10 minutes on a Sunday morning.
I'm really not a big autocross enthusiast, but they're close and cheap, so I'll do a few. I'm going to be doing open lapping days at Gingerman whenever I get a chance, but work hours and the cost of gas make that a bit trickier.

Sounds good, I think you found my suspension so you can ship that over and we'll be even.

Def's "Oh Snap!" GIF really set it off.
I just realized your B14 is white, Veilside. Nice.
Project update: I'm actively looking for a local (Chicago) SR to buy since I don't want to get screwed by some sketchball Canadian company. I could drive to Toronto or Montreal and pick one up in person, as I've been wanting to visit Canada and some friends who live in the aforementioned cities, but even that is a bit of a risk I think. There are a few prospects locally that look like a good deal. There's nothing like taking advantage of kids who never sit down to realize how much a project will cost and end up selling it all at a loss before installing it!

You could always look for a DE motor set on ebay, JHOT usually has them on there and have been quite affordable in the past when I saw them posted.
I guess you could do that and toss some forged pistons in there... seems expensive compared to just getting an SR20DET in the first place though.
JHot TX is pretty close to me... didn't see any SRs in the warehouse when I picked up a seat last Friday.

The previous owner of my car picked up a DE motorset (motor/tranny/harness/ecu) for $750 shipped from JHot, back 2 years ago.
You don't need to toss in forged pistons, the stock 9.5:1 pistons work just fine... I guess it really depends what your building the car for though. For a T28 at 12-14psi it will hold up just fine, even for track usage. I'll let you know if that changes :)
edit - you could also pick up some used DET pistons for cheap... for peace of mind.
I've fought detonation with a conservative street timing map on the track with 8.5:1 stock SR stuffs. I'd hate to think what 9.5:1 would be like on a hot day.
IMO it's not worth it to save a few hundred bucks after it's all said and done.

DE's with turbos are for losers. :D

Are you talking about the Windy City Miata Club Test and Tune at Lake County College?

Nope, Audi Club autox at Maywood. That venue is like 10 miles straight west of me, CLC is way north. I really try to avoid that to keep the driving minimal and save on gas.

I might be getting a DET with C1 cams and some other "goodies" this weekend. Quotes are because some of the parts on it are questionable, but most would either be replaced by stuff I already have, or sold off and replaced with better aftermarket stuff or stock parts.
Epstein, I'm totally biting your setup (except for the parts that really matter like the FR mani and TS GT3071R): JWT C1s, Gizzmo MS-IBC, Innovate LC-1, Exedy Hyper Single...
how much is the Audi club AutoX? whats their website?

I just bought good parts and did a lot of research. You'll like all of them!

I checked out that SR last night, looks good and comes with a few extra parts I didn't expect. Some new gaskets, new chain guides, new CAS, stock exhaust mani, an extra (mangled by McKinney) harness, stock cams/springs, stock fw/clutch. But yea, some questionable Greddy parts are installed. The motor was never started with them on, so luckily they have no runtime and should be easier to ditch. So, I'll be selling the Greddy valvesprings and 1.2mm HG immediately.
Thinking Supertech springs (since Codyace didn't want to trade his S3s with me). Which ones though? This will be on HLAs with a T28 for a while. I'd like to get a 3071R or 30R eventually and some SLAs, but I will not be able to afford that for a year or two at least. I'll probably put the rev limiter around 7800 just for safety's sake with the T28. If/when I go bigger, I'd probably shift around 8000 and have the limiter at 8500 for transient use, rather than having to upshift for an instant right before a corner. I HATE that. So, 95 lb. or 106 lb. Supertechs? The motor also has Crower retainers in it...I'm not sure if they're actual Crower pieces or the BC Ti ones. Either way, I'll probably sell them.
Edit: I could also run the stock cams and springs, and either sell the C1s for some cash or hold onto them. This would free up more money for a Greddy oilpan, plus I'd have a more reasonable idle.
Instead of Greddy HG, I think I'll get a Cosworth. Comments? ARPs needed or can I stay stock?
Edit: Did some reading...thinking maybe stock HG and new stock bolts/washers. It would be like $80 total and seems more installer-error proof. Thoughts? Epstein? lol

OT from the SR-talk, but this has been bothering me.
turtl, where did you get your Kirk Racing rollbar at? A Google search is only showing one place selling them (carbonfiberhoods.net... zomg carbon hoods!!!~!!~!111~!1! :p)
Did you buy it directly from KR?

I refuse to answer since you didn't give me tech info about my SR.
:D
Actually, I bought it new-used from a guy who had an S13 and was under the impression it was an S13 rollbar, and he had bought it new from someone else who just never put it in. So, I got a pretty good deal on a new bar. Shoes59 on FA has one also, you might ask him about it.
I think the stock HG is pretty strong, and would easily hold up to your T28 track abuse, yet while you're doing it, a Cosworth isn't THAT much more and you might as well IMO. Even though it eliminates the HG as a potential "fuse" to blow if things go wrong rather than more expensive bits, I think you'd replace the HG at some point anyway with plans of a big big turbo later on.
I think I'd still go stock head bolts though. The SR20 ARP solution for stock threads has me less than impressed. Doesn't engage all the threads, and the undercut means you're really not bumping up the clamping load much if any over stock headbolts. BMW guys are having all sorts of problems with undercut ARPs.
As for the cams.. I'd much rather have a GReddy oil pan than cams with a T28 in the car. Just my 2 cents.
Cams make the biggest difference in the car acting like it isn't stock. It's a PITA to try to lug around a parking lot at 1500 RPM in 1st now, because the car throws in the occasional misfire from too much exhaust gas residual - makes it buck around a bit. Plus I'm still hunting down why it just sometimes won't catch the idle on my car. I'm thinking it has something to do with the ECUs timing adjustment to catch an idle, and it's probably too retarded when it tries to catch it and no go.

What cams are you running, Def?
I've found in turbo cars that most mild cams do just fine. I've ran JWT S3, JWT S4, and Tomei cams in the past and found the S3 cams behave almost like stock cams with the exception of some loss in the low end. I have more issue with the 9lb flywheel/Spec 6 puck sprung clutch than anything else for daily driving the car. The car idles just fine (even though the IACV is not plugged in) and the car does not act different at lower rpm than it did with stock cams.
HKS Step 1 264/264s. My car drives fine 95% of the time down low, but it does have a pretty noticeable lope below 1k RPM, which gives it a bit of "roughness" at low load and low RPM.
I have a TODA flywheel too, so the revs drop pretty quick, which is maybe why the stock ECU has a problem catching it at times. It only happens with my electric fans on, without them on it's fine all the time on catching the idle.

I guess I'll do Cosworth HG/stock head bolts (new)/stock cams. My only concern is installing a metal headgasket on an engine that hasn't been decked. Do I just clean up really well, slap it on and cross my fingers, or should I measure the deck and head for straightness?
With the money saved on valvesprings, I can buy a Greddy oil pan, maybe a Freddy IM? That's nice just because it cleans up the intake side of the engine, which will already be crowded since my car has ABS. The pan is a must since the stocker is dented, and I don't want to risk pounding it out again. I don't really want to pay almost $100 for a stock pan, either. Greddy pan + new blacktop pickup/gasket --> peace of mind (or piece of mind, as the grammatically excellent hordes on the internet often say).
I'll probably keep the C1s for a while. If it looks like a bigger turbo isn't in the cards, or I need money, I can always sell them.
