Pulled out of my work today to have my car start bucking and hesitating really bad. It ran off and on for a few more minutes and eventually died. Thankfully I had my OBD2 scanner in the car with me (something I usually do). i plugged it in and it was a "ignition circuit fault". I had been contemplating removing my MSD box and switching back to a B13 distributor so I could run a full external coil, but as of yet had not had the time to do so. Needless to say my current modified dizzy was dead, and I swapped the replacement i had picked up to last until I swapped the B13 one in. So I was back on the road in a hour or two and no harm no foul.

I just picked up a built head, which means I'm probably going to pick up a forged rods/pistons to go with it before installation.

Lookin good man. You gotta dink with the camera a bit on the close-ups though. Looks like a pic I took. You can see how big the lobes on those suckers are too. It almost looks wrong. Should be great.
that looks yummy....that will sure be a fun car.:)

Sorry for the dumb question, but what purpose will the tap on #1 exhuast runner serve?
McCoy
09-28-2007, 06:52 AM
EGT... that's usually the runner to tap for EGT since it typically runs the leanest.

EGT... that's usually the runner to tap for EGT since it typically runs the leanest. Interesting. Is this the normal placement for them? I just saw that you have Hankook RS2's going on. I have them on my S13 and have been pretty happy with them. They're at least as good as my skill level merits!

They are the only decent street tire that comes in the size I need. They'll work just fine I think. That is normal placement for the EGT (have them on both my cars=) EGT... that's usually the runner to tap for EGT since it typically runs the leanest. Interesting. I ordered my new wheels today. 949Racing 6UL in 15x9 +36 http://www.949racing.com/ProductImages/36BsW.jpg I'm going to use the 225/45/15 RS2 for a street tire and 225/45/15 NT01 for the track. For a real competition though I'd probably order a set of the 275/35/15 (10") Hoosiers and use a 225/45/15 (9") Hoosier rear. The unforunate downside is that they won't be in until March...which sucks frankly, but it'll give me something to look forward to.

Another side note... I ordered Cosworth main bearings, rod bearings, and headgasket to get the new motor finished up. Shooting for 350-370 whp on pump gas. Here's the build sheet for it...from what i recall Lowport SR Head Ferrea valve springs Ferrea valves w/ coated surfaces Newer HLA setup (rev to 8.5-9k) JWT C1 Cams Stock cam gears (if I think there is something to be gained i'll switch to adjustable, but i think i'd wind up with them straight up anyway) Ported and polished head Cosworth headgasket Factory bore, pistons, and rods Cosworth main bearings (.0025 tolerance) Cosworth rod bearings (.0025 tolerance) Custom intake manifold will be up soon enough as well. (by JGS) Turbo setup will be as follows Turbonetics 50 trim .82 turbine housing with an E cover Fmax log manifold ceramic coated (as seen in picture) JGS Wastegate JGS 40mm Bypass valve Spearco intercooler core (endtanks by JGS) I'm running the tolerances loose to keep oil down there with the revs up.

Why such a large turbine A/R for just 350-370 whp? Looks like a nice setup overall though. Do you have another B14 that's a track car? Your comment about the Hoosiers and Nittos threw me off.
veilside180sx

I have a .48 turbine housing on my current 50 trim and i don't necessarily like the backpressure. It would choke the flow attempting to rev that high on it. .63 would probably work, but I got a good deal on this one. The less backpressure I have the easier it is on EGT's on pump gas as well. Well my street B14 is progressing more towards the track and less street. The B13 that was going to be the full time track car has stepped back to daily driving duties for my brother. Why such a large turbine A/R for just 350-370 whp? Looks like a nice setup overall though. Do you have another B14 that's a track car? Your comment about the Hoosiers and Nittos threw me off.

Some more parts showed up for the motor today...courtesy of Eric Hsu from XS Engineering I received them very quickly. http://nissanroadracing.com/files/images/CIMG1585.preview.JPG It's ironic really that the only things left stock on the block now are merely the headbolts, pistons, and rods. The next go around I'll swap them for a Arias (or CP/Wiseco)/Eagle setup.

Well I decided I didn't want to wait until the next go around to swap pistons/rods. So i ordered Mahle pistons and Eagle rods to go with the Cosworth bearings and headgasket. In addition I picked up some ARP headstuds as well. Some how what started as an easy DET shortblock swap to go with my head has become a right nasty beast.=) This should cover me for any potential crazy power desires I may think I need in the future.

The FA skyline forum is probably the most ridiculous, anal forum I've ever seen. I know the cars are expensive and the motor builds certainly aren't cheap, but the amount of money those guys spend on just a motor build is insane. Then again, with the number of "blew my motor :(" threads up there, maybe they're justified for spending that much.

Well I got a call from the machine shop that my block was finished. So I went down to pick it up and to my dismay they forgot to machine the timing cover when they machined the block. So low and behold, I'll still be waiting for my motor.
Your car is going to be insane!!!! I love the look of your SE-L, makes me have 2nd thoughts!!!!LOL!!!

Here's the pics of my interior, which I'll probably be selling the whole thing to help fund the daily driver movement.=)
Everything is wrapped to match the front Sparco Torino's. The backseats and fiberglass sub boxes as well, which it appears I forgot to snap pics of.

Baller! Looks like you skipped the hot-tank like I did. Did you do freeze plugs?
veilside180sx
02-15-2008, 09:41 AM
As far as I know the freeze plugs were redone, but it actually was hot tanked. EPA sucks so they can't use anything very acidic anymore to hot tank with.

Well my wheels were pushed back another couple of months, so I'm going to cancel my order and just get 16x8 RPF1's. I'll probably order them next week.

I didn't realize that either till just now.

Oh, nice. What tire size? Most of the wide 15" tires (that would have fit your 15x9 6ULs) are pretty short. The 16s seem to be more targeted to the Camaro crowd with some fairly tall sizes.
veilside180sx
02-25-2008, 05:52 PM
Yeah for the 15's I'd use 225/45/15 or 225/50/15. The 16's will basically be the same 225/45/16 or 225/50/16, but it also opens the option to run something as tall as the 245/45/16 if I really wanted.
Toyo came out with a T1R in 245/35/16 as well though.

You have more info? Colors, offset? Is it listen on the website?

edgeracing.com has them listed, as does good-win-racing.com.
Color is only available in silver (that's what paint is for) and it's a +38 offset
