Howdy my name is Trevor. I am a manufacturing and mechanical engineering technologies major at Texas A&M. I am also the Public Relations officer of the Texas A&M Sports car club and am getting involved with our formula sae team.

But more importantly I have an s13(white rusty pos) and s14(work horse) that i like to autocross and do HDPEs with. I am really glad to come to a place where a little more thought is put into the setup of our cars. Hopefully here in the couple months i'll have swapped the KA out; maybe even have some coin left over for a set of those 8611's i hear about. In the mean time i have to pass this semester and work on a front brake upgrade for the s14.

haven't updated this in forever but wanted to get my sr swap completed before i did.

here's some current shots

http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a32/TheFirstTJ/IMGA0516.jpg

Things i still need/want get:
-one piece seat
-6point harness
-steering wheel with quick release
-track pads (thinking porterfield r4 or r4s and i will more than not swap them out after track days, any input out there?)
-tires(not sure if i want to shell out for r-comp or stick to streets for auto-xing ang hdpes)

Problems i have to work on:
-car wants to oversteer way too much
- front left lock up is pretty evident, i am also thinking about changing the MC anyway to get a little more pedal feel and travel
I already have a z32 booster and MC (not sure which size though)

Clean swap man! Welcome to the forums, this forum has quickly become my favorite 240 forum out of all the ones I visit.

Howdy!!

You still have the old KA you took out? I could use a spare. ;)

no 1-pc racing seat for ya, but I have several out of date 5 pt harnesses I'll be glad to donate to the cause. two of them are brand new latch-links I think Schroth.. bought them a while back and never put them in the car.. now they're out of date so I can't use them for racing, but they'll be great for auto X or drift use or anything that doesn't require a date stamp.

I also have an out of date Simpson 6 pt cam lock harness, but it's a roll bar mount type. gotta have a cage to use it.

So what's your suspension and current brake setup (I see some Wilwood Superlites/Dynalites up front)? can't help out much with the handling and brake lockup issues until we know what you've got.

I swear i have seen your car at TWS a couple of years ago. I used to cornerwork a little and always payed attention to the 240s that came out.

I do still have the old ka. It's in need of some new main seals valve cover gasket at the minimum.

Those belts seem pretty tempting. I plan to make it out to a few TWS MSC events and some PCAs so don't know if they would work.

As far as suspension:
all of the rear suspension arms mnus the lca's are ebay adjustables(from previous owner)
spl subframe collars
spl v2 t/c rods
megan street coilovers(from previous owner)
no rear sway bar
stock front sway bar

Brakes:
Previous owner supposedly swappped in a z32 booster and z32 MC
z32 rears
Wilwood bbk for s14

I am considering getting equal length stainless flex lines to run to both fronts and then pick a proportioning valve for the rears.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but z31's were 1" MC's, and the z32 was a 1 1/16" MC. It should be stamped on the MC.

Does the z32 booster even swap over? Almost every 240sx I've seen has used an OEM booster with z32 MC.

You're only locking your left front in straightline threshold braking? Have others outside the car verified this?

Oh yeah, welcome!

You probably did see me. I used to frequent TWS, but haven't had much time in the last couple years to play. Mine's kinda obvious too with the mismatched left fender. I also corner worked for Mike Ledinski/EDP Racing for a while. Had to quit that when I got this job, but I got tons of track time with them.

What pads are you running front and rear? You can move a ton of brake bias around with just changing pads. You might also look for the right side line collapsing under pressure or funky corner weights. If you've got coilovers and haven't corner weighted the car, you're just making a WAG (wild ass guess) at getting the car balanced. Having the car out of balance means you can have a hundred or more pounds of weight difference between the front wheels. thus a constant left wheel lockup since that side may be lighter.

All that said, mine has a tendency to do that at TWS as well. I can't tell you how many times I thought I was going to die going into T8 and T13 and lock up the left front. eeek

Z32TT is 1 1/16" and the NA are 1". That's what I remember from memory anyway.

This would be right since my 1" BMC came off an NA Z32.

I havent had anyone outside confirm, but me and my codrive felt it at our last auto-x. I have got another friend with a 240 and he has the same problem with his z32 fronts on his s13, so I figured it was somewhat common with brake conversions.

yeah i just checked, i've got a 1 1/16" MC. And i shouldnt have any lines collapsing unless you know something special about stainless lines. As far as pads go just some terrible street pads on 300zx rears and what ever street compound the wilwoods came with. I am interested in trying out the Porterfield r4 or R4s pads; anyone have any experience with them? Would the r4s' hold up to track days; atleast once a month? And no i havent crossweighed the car, so i need to find a place for that.
