If there wasn't a center vent there originally, that would look like a factory piece.

I forgot to add to this post that the gauge pod popped out during the last track day... I kind of guessed it would. The only fix that I could think of was to use safety wire to tie to the back of one of the gauges and pulled it down behind the stereo and wrapped the other end to a brace. This keeps just enough tension on the pod so it can't pop out and still allows me to remove it easily enough if needed.

Another idea would be to run a bracket behind it with threads to accept some button head screws going through it.

Here's the way I did my install: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v168/e1griego/DSC00035Medium.jpg It's my dd, so I wasn't looking to get rid of the center vents, plus I don't like the way that looks. Yes, probably more functional, but I wanted to retain my a/c while going ka-t, which makes getting rid of the vents somewhat counterproductive. In any event, I like the way it looks. Alex

I ran the gauges that way in my sentra, but didn't like them the angle that I had to look at them while on track. I killed my AC and as mine might be a partial DD, it's not really. We have a nice subaru OB as the real DD and to be used on any type of trip.

Yeah, makes sense. The angle is a bit goofy, i'll admit, but it works fine. Alex
