I need some opinions on this. I've decided with my new job. i need to start my project. I'm wanting to slowly build a car that i can run in a SCCA IT (Improved Touring) class. I have been playing with a couple ideas but i need some opinions.. here is what i've been thinking..

1. pignose coupe ITA car (shells are getting $$)
2. 81 Nissan 210 ITC car (i can get the stock car for $50)
3. !st gen RX-7 ITA car (they seem pretty cheap)
4. !st gen MR-2 car

the think that is keeping me from the 240sx is the price... every time i see one they have so much money thrown in them.. when the RX-7's seem so much cheaper and run just as quick.

the datsun 210 will be easy for me to get and super cheap.. but quality information on building one will be rare.. and i will have to fab almost everything..

so i wanna hear yalls opinions.. remember... IM ON A TIGHT BUDGET.. lol

i've thought the same.. but geez i hate FWD... i know it sounds gay but i love RWD cars always have.. but in worse case.. a b13 sounds good.

i know it sounds terrible as a car but theres a guy in my region who runs a neon coupe and i like to watch it. now would i enjoy driving it im not too sure. like you i only have interest in RWD unless its a daily lux.

Are you dead set on building?

You can buy then improve for pennies on the dollar.

How about an ITA/B/C Civic/CRX?
or
an ITS 2nd Gen RX-7

I will tell you I keep hearing grublings about finding stuff for 1st Gen RX-7's are nowadays.

I'd go with Spec Miata or ITS in a 2nd Gen RX-7. Mazda is pretty good to their club racers, and both cars are pretty easy to get parts for.

I'd say the Miata is the better deal, but I just like the FC's :)

What about a Miata... [Ducks/] You might find one already prepped for 3-4k

I like those MR-2s lately.

The shop I crew for has an ITA 240SX and had an ITA(IT7) 1st gen RX7.

The 240 was built to replace the RX-7 and is ultimately faster. However, the RX-7 was simpler, easier on tires/brakes/fuel, and with the mazdaspeed program, replacement stuffs was easier to come by.

If I were just starting out, I'd either build up a 1st gen RX-7 or buy someone's Spec Miata.

If I ever move to a location that has more tracks and club events, I will build a spec miata for sure... you just can't beat the initial cost/maintaince/fun factor of this spec car.

lol@those pix

I used to want to get a mk1 mr2, they are light, fun, nimble, mid-engined, rwd, HARD to work on engine, but lots of potential...

Miata seems easier to cope with i would think but yeah... hehe ls1 in miata :P just kidding... :)

I'm with Ryan on buy vs. build...much better deal that way (as long as it's built properly as evidenced by a logbook).
