he's running hoosier a6's. I got a chance to ride in the car a couple times this weekend, and i will second the AMAZING grip comment :)
The camaros and corvettes are the only ones running bigger tires.

Damn you S14 guys... able to fit a 275/40 (let alone a 295/35) hoosier under the stock fenders!!!

What offsets are you using... +35 out back I assume?

I'll be attempting to stuff these same sizes (R6's) on my S13 later this year... not sure how the front's going to fit though under stock fenders :)

I'll probably just break down and buy flares if needed... quicker than swapping everything over to an S14 ;)

nice... wheel size and offset details?

5zigen FN01RCs 17x9 15 offset in the front and 17x10 35 offset in the rear. The rears did touch the lower control arm in the back under certain cornering conditions. Just sitting on the ground I can fit my finger between the gap but it must rotate a bit to make it touch. Looks like I have a bit of grinding to do.

Have you used a Pyrometer to see if you are getting the tires up to temp?

I've heard tell of people going too wide and not being able to get up to temp with a resulting reduction in grip. By dropping back down some sizes they were able to go faster with tires in the right operating temps.

Neat tip. Digital multimeters with the a K type thermocouple are just just as accurate and good as a Longacre pyrometer. Just buy the probe and plug it into your multimeter for cheep, multi use pyrometer!

Longacre probe is $70 - http://www.longacreracing.com/catalog/item.asp?id=195&catid=7

I am familiar with using a pyrometer. I used one last year to see if my camber was correct. When you can't put power down almost anywhere, you need more rubber, serious suspension or less power. More rubber was the answer for me as the suspension has already undergone a considerable amount of tuning, I could actually use high boost as opposed to last year when every time I got on the throttle the wheels spun causing the car to be really loose.

I agree in road course tire temp is a bigger deal but Hoosier A6s are designed to be up to temp after a couple turns.

Last year with 245s up front and 275s in the back, The tires were way more sensitive to temp than they are this year. They did not stick at all until they were warm. This year on a cold weekend for my normal autocross conditions, they were gripping right off the bat with the wider tires.

According to the FSM it is simply called the lower arm. Does that help clarify?

like eye 5 already said, the a6's are designed to be used at much lower temps than the r6 road race compound. With autocross, your not bringing the tires up to road racing temp no matter what so it is not even much of an option. You just want a ton of mechanical grip. Oh, and do you work for longacre now? :) jk

REminds me of mine, looks great. Only difference is I still needed more clearance for my kts up front running the 17x10 +25 and 275s. Maybe one day I can afford the a6s, but for now the r6s keep me competitive and cost is minimal for takeoffs. I loose a second or so on most of our courses but again works for me and my pocketbook. Great setup non the less, and I can see how the +35 offset can touch cause I have roughly an inch of clearance back there. Good luck and enjoy the setup

Thanks! So far so good. I could only fit 9" wide wheels up front. I run the 275s on the 9s and with the way the hoosiers are designed they fit fine.

I had some tear off R6s and had a hard time getting them up to temp, its probably warmer down by you. I have a co-driver and he gets a decent discount on the hoosiers so between that and splitting the cost, it could be worse.

Wow thats a mighty original setup :P

On the other hand the wheel setup seems a little bwah. ;)

first off, I can't believe that you guys couldn't figure out the wheel specs from the pics / tires :( The dish of the rear spokes means those are 10" FN01R(C)'s, and the lack of dish means the fronts are probably 9". Then, since he's running 295's it's gotta be the +35 variants otherwise the tires would be sticking out.

(yes I know he posted this already, but explanations on how to be a detective weren't already posted :)

Secondly, I can't believe how those 275's fit on 9" wheels. I've got some Toyo street tires that are 255's and fit like that :(

the 275s fit 9s just fine, I tend to think theyre just a little bit more square on a 10in. heres mine 275 on a 10" +25 wheel....15mm bolton up front to clear which is what I dont like about the setup.

hoosier's dot tires are a bit cantilevered, so hey fit on much narrower wheels than a typical street tire

OK. So I ran on a tighter course today. :( The insides of the wheels and tires were scraping. I had to put some spacers on for the afternoon. I can fit my thumb between the spot where it is rubbing when the car is parked. My bushings must be completely shot to deflect that much. What are your opinions on this?
