Noticed this morning my 240 is sitting lopsided on my driveway. Go in for a closer look and the right rear is completely flat. Haven't inspected it up close, but assuming there is a nail in the tread. is it ok to patch/plug? which? will i still be able to track the car on a repaired tire? :(

Everyplace I've been to does not allow you to track with a plug. A patch your probably ok with.

It would obviously be better is it didn't have to be repaired, but I'm sure you could get away with a patch without any issues. I wouldn't plug it though.

If done right, a patch is just as strong as if there were no defect. As long as it's at least an inch away from the sidewall. At least that's what my boss at discount tire would tell us...

I've run plugged or patched street tires (Kumho MX, Azenis RT-615 and the like) for years on the track.

Never had a problem with them and I've probably plugged 10 of them myself and taken them to the track at 120+mph. never had a flat on a DOT-R though.

I had a plug in my autocross rt615 from previous owner, without knowing for a year until I had them dismounted.

Before that I had a plug in some all season tires which I did burnout and donut all the time with

thanks for the replies. confirmed last night that there is a nail in the tire. removed the wheel and i'll be getting it patched.

I've plugged a couple of street tires and never had any issues over multiple drift events using them on the rear. Spinning the tires at 100 mph while burning them off is a pretty good durability test.

Both of them were within 1/4" of the sidewall but still on the main tread blocks.

The tire didn't even lose any more pressure over time than non plugged tires.

I probably wouldn't chance it on a road course just to be on the safe side but like Matt said it shouldn't be an issue.

i embedded a large screw in my v710 - plugged it with a kit from the gas station. 5 autocrosses later it hasnt lost a pound.

i marked the spot, and check it now and then to see if it appears to migrate out of the tire.
