Bigger Piston Benefit?

Can anyone tell me what's the Benefit of a bigger Strut/Shock piston?
I see Tein's use 22mm Piston's while some other use upto 50mm piston's.

You sure that isn't the strut shaft size on the Teins?

Bigger pistons = less pressure to get the same damping force, and typically better controllability and less heat generated while the dampers are doing their thing.
